    GOVERNOR'S REINVENTING MICHIGAN AWARD 2011

    AGC BUILD MICHIGAN AWARD 2011

    DETROIT, MI - Originally designed by famed architect Albert Kahn, this 4-story, 100-year-old brick building, located at 5716 Michigan Avenue, initially served as the San Telmo Cigar Factory. An extensive historic renovation of this 50,000 square foot timber frame structure transformed it into a state-of-the-art modern wellness center. Energy efficient features were incorporated into the design with elements that preserve the building's heritage.

  • AGC BUILD MICHIGAN AWARD 2013

    DETROIT, MI - Once 2024 European Cup Live Score Predictionpart of the massive Parke Davis pharmaceutical manufacturing campus, the dilapidated building stood as a shadow of the past and a looming eyesore to the future. Abandoned for over 20 years, this 105,293 square foot, 1940’s structure required an extensive full gut renovation, along with the addition of new space, in order to be transformed into Detroit’s first affordable assisted living facility. Located within walking distance of the international riverfront, this development brought hundreds of new jobs and a $20 Million investment in the neighborhood. 


  • AIA DETROIT DESIGN HONOR AWARD 25 YEAR HONOR AWARD 2008

    ROYAL OAK, MI - In the Matilda Wilson Free-Flight Aviary, over 30 species of birds are free to fly, walk, or swim among the cover of lush tropical plants in a warm and inviting climate. This impressive glass-enclosed habitat allows visitors to view birds in a natural setting as they walk along a winding pathway. The project, built in 1975, earned the Twenty-Five Year Honor Award for a work of enduring quality. The building is owned by the Detroit Zoological Society and the City of Detroit.

    DETROIT, MI - This historic restoration of this once-abandoned architectural gem into affordable housing for aspiring artists and others was a significant accomplishment. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the restoration of the Whitdel was a major catalyst in revitalizing the struggling neighborhood. Today, it offers affordable housing in 32 beautifully renovated apartment units, an elegant lobby, art gallery space, ceramics rooms, a computer lab, a multi-purpose classroom, and many other features to foster an inviting and creative environment.

    BEST OF TROY GREEN BUILDING AWARD 2013

    ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION'S ENVIRONMENTAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

    TROY, MI - The scope of this adaptive reuse of a 1960’s office building challenged O'Brien Construction to investigate new solutions to traditional building systems. O'Brien Construction recycled 95% of all construction debris (by weight) and applied many innovative, leading edge, green construction techniques to the project yielding outstanding results.


  • ENGINEERING SOCIETY OF DETROIT'S CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN AWARD

    REDFORD, MI - Designed by the architectural firm of Sims-Varner, the Redford Branch houses approximately 150,000 volumes of books and other materials, and is the busiest of all the Detroit Public Library branches on the west side of Detroit. Special features of this branch include a children's storytelling corner, a children's garden and an Internet lab with 17 public-access computer workstations. The Engineering Society of Detroit’s Construction and Design Awards are among the premier recognitions awarded to members of the construction industry and their projects.

    LEED® GREEN BUILDING SYSTEM CERTIFICATION

    DETROIT, MI - The renovation of Lithuanian Hall achieved recognition as the first building in Detroit to be certified by the prestigious LEED® Green Building Rating System for Core and Shell construction. The building, originally built in the 1920’s, underwent extensive gutting of the internal structure and complete restoration to historic requirements. Partially exposed brick brings interest to the renovated interior and energy efficient systems provide lower operating costs.

    NAHB MULTI-FAMILY AWARDS - BEST GREEN BUILDING CONCEPTS FINALIST

    DETROIT, MI - Built on the site of the former Studebaker Plant, extensive brownfield remediation was necessary in order to construct this 107,000 square foot, 150 unit apartment complex. With 11,000 square of feet of common area and commercial space, Piquette provides homeless veterans with permanent housing and a comprehensive offering of on-site supportive services.


  • BIA DEVELOPMENT OF THE YEAR 2009

    DETROIT, MI - Gardenview Estates is the redevelopment of the Detroit Housing Commission's former Herman Gardens public housing site. Constructed in several phases, this development features a variety of one, two, and three-level multi-family housing designs as well as a senior apartment building. Wood frame construction was used with brick facades over concrete basements. A community clubhouse, playgrounds, and other common areas were also added. In total, O'Brien Construction built 472 units of housing for this expansive development.

    DETROIT, MI - This 3-story, 62-unit senior apartment building was built on a formerly dilapidated Euro 2024 Football Predictions and Betting Tipssite which required extensive soil remediation including the removal of a number of underground basement demolitions. Inaccurate city records presented additional challenges with the unforeseen relocation of utilities. The building's cost-efficient, attractive design incorporated energy efficient features throughout while offering residents a safe, accessible place to live. The project further served as an anchor for the revitalization and rebirth of its neglected Detroit neighborhood.
